Following the release of independent Ofcom (UK internet and communication regulator body) numbers showing that only less then 6% of eligible families had signed up for social tariffs, Citizens Advice also recommended for improved promotion of the programmers.

According to the organization, individuals who were in need may have benefited from cheaper social tariffs or particular low-cost packages.
Approx. 4.4 million eligible consumers are losing out on the discounts, according to regulator Ofcom.
The government said that by collaborating with Ofcom and the sector to release a variety of goods on the market, it had boosted the uptake of social tariffs.
These started at £10 per month and were accessible throughout 99% of the UK, it added.
According to a spokeswoman, major providers Sky and Virgin Media have already signed up for a broadband eligibility checker that has been developed to streamline the process for benefit claimants enrolling in social tariffs.
“The people who lose out as a result are the most likely to disconnect,” she continued.
“The internet is now a necessary component of our lives, enabling us to manage our finances, obtain benefits, and keep in touch with our loved ones.
It is obvious that Ofcom needs to hold businesses accountable as they continue to put off implementing social tariffs.
Even while the number of people signing up for social tariffs had quadrupled since January of last year, Ofcom found that only about 5% of those who were eligible were actually doing so.

With people seeking the assistance four times more likely to fall behind on broadband costs, the charity is worried the issue could worsen.
