On Friday, France observed its national holiday with an impressive display of warplanes and a magnificent Bastille Day parade in Paris.

Additionally, over 100,000 police officers were deployed across the country to maintain peace and prevent any potential unrest in disadvantaged areas.

On Friday, as the parade marched towards the Arc de Triomphe, fighter jets and military helicopters soared above the location where 17-year-old Nahel Merzouk tragically lost his life last month in Nanterre, a suburb of Paris. The spectacle captivated the VIP guests who were observing the parade.

Meanwhile, the streets grew unusually quiet as local residents gathered at Nanterre’s Nelson Mandela Square to witness the impressive flyby.

This year’s Bastille Day parade held special significance as India took center stage as the guest of honor.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined French President Emmanuel Macron in watching the parade. Leading the procession down the Champs-Elysees were approximately 240 Indian troops, followed by a multitude of French forces.

Notably, Indian warplanes manufactured by France also participated in the captivating aerial display.

Prior to France’s national day, President Macron presented a posthumous Legion of Honor award to Arman Soldin, a French journalist who tragically lost his life in Ukraine earlier this year.

Soldin worked for the renowned news agency Agence France-Presse.

The Bastille Day parade featured an impressive display of participation with 6,500 individuals marching, 94 planes and helicopters soaring overhead, 219 ground vehicles, 200 majestic horses, and 86 loyal dogs.

This grand celebration takes place in towns and cities throughout France to honor the historic event of the storming of the Bastille prison in 1789, which served as a catalyst for the French Revolution.
